Jim Elton has demonstrated a successful approach to Health and Wellness in Athletics and Sports Medicine for over 30 years.
In the Sports Medicine field, Jim moved from Student Athletic Trainer at The Ohio State University (Football, Hockey, Volleyball, Track, Cross Country) to Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (Basketball and Football) to Head Athletic Trainer (Continental Indoor Soccer League, Hilton Head Sports Medicine, and Riverside Community College).
At Riverside Community College, he built the athletic training program from the ground up. Starting with the academic area, he created Athletic Training curriculum and authored and designed the Exercise, Sport, and Wellness Certificate Program with emphasis areas in Athletic Training, Coaching, and Fitness Professions. He built an athletic training program that will always be an integral part of the athletic department and its development.
After ten years leading the Athletic Training Program at Riverside Community College, Jim embarked on a coaching career that showed immediate success. His teams advanced to the State Playoffs in nine of the ten years and brought home the Conference championship in 2006, 2007, and 2008. During his tenure as head coach, his teams never finished lower than second place. His teams won the prestigious Ojai Community College Individual, Team, and State Championships while producing ITA Academic All-American Teams.
He was named Conference Coach of the Year in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009, as well as Community College State Coach of the Year and National Junior College Coach of the Year in 2013.

On the Athletics side, Jim moved from Assistant Coach to Head Coach to Assistant Athletic Director to Athletic Director at Riverside Community College. He always provided leadership and support for athletic programs, while enriching the lives of the student-athletes.
On the Academic side, Jim moved from Adjunct Faculty to Associate Professor to Assessment Coordinator to Accreditation Steering Committee. He has been responsible for face to face and online instruction in a variety of kinesiology courses including Athletic Training, Athletic Training Applications, Nutrition, Adapted Physical Education, Adapted Water Exercise, Fitness and Wellness, Organization and Administration of Sport, Sport Psychology, Stress Management, CPR & First Aid, and Movement-based Learning Courses. He has coordinated areas of institutional effectiveness, including assessment, program review, unit planning, and accreditation. Responsible for curriculum development and revision, academic advisement, and student development.
Having worked in many capacities in athletics, kinesiology, and administration, Jim has always understood what it’s all about. His strong and diverse experience in athletics and kinesiology at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels has always focused on the athlete, their success in life, and their health and well-being.
