Kevin Smith
COO, CSO
Kevin was born in England where he began playing soccer at age 4. He later moved to Huntington Beach, California, at age 8 and began his love for sports like soccer, baseball, basketball, and surfing. Kevin attended Edison High School and played both soccer and baseball, but focused on soccer his junior and senior years and was named to the All Sunset League, All CIF, and All Orange County Teams. After high school Kevin received a scholarship to play at UC Irvine where he earned All Conference all 4 years and graduated in 1993 as the school's all time scoring leader. At UCI he also earned a B,A, in Social Science. After a successful college career, he had a short professional soccer stint with the LA Salsa and Bournemouth FC in England that ended prematurely due to injury. With his playing career and education behind him, his passion for teaching and coaching that began at age 18 became his focus. His ability to lead was evident immediately and he was named the Varsity Coach at Fountain Valley High School at age 20. There, he led the Barons to 3 Sunset League Titles and 2 CIF Championship games. In 1999, he joined the Orange Coast College Men’s Soccer Program and has worked there ever since. Recently, Kevin added Athletic Director to his resume, but has returned full time to his passion as the Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Soccer Programs. In conjunction with coaching and teaching at public schools, Kevin has remained active and engaged in the club soccer world. He has coached boys and girls from ages 10 to 18, been a Director of Coaching, and Club President.

Kevin’s drive to protect our youth athletes from the preventable risks of Second Impact Syndrome and long-term effects of concussions is very personal. Currently, his wife Alyson is struggling with post concussion syndrome. As a competitive youth athlete she experienced head trauma at the age of ten starting on the softball field. Multiple concussions followed as a youth wake boarder; motorcycle rider; volleyball, softball, and Division I soccer player at UCI. Kevin believes that with education, proper testing techniques and a management strategy for dealing with concussions, he can help prevent this from becoming part of a child’s life.
